Jakarta Plans Watergate Construction at Angke River

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, said that the government is currently planning to construct watergate at Angke River to mitigate floods in Kapuk Muara and Pejagalan. The project is expected to be completed in the next two years six months.


"We are planning to build a watergate at Angke River so that the people in Kapuk Muara wouldn't concern about floods," said Ahok in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.


He further added that the government is also planning to complete a 300 meters sheet pile construction at Angke River, as well as reconditioning three water pumps in Kapuk.


"The total budget for the construction of sheet pile and watergate amounts up to Rp 800 billion [about US$67 million]," he said.
