TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta City Administration has decided to put its focus on dealing with 25 flood spots in the Capital. These spots have been chosen as priority spots because it may disrupt traffic as they are filled with water after a rainfall.
The Center of Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) recorded more than 25 flood spots in several areas including Tebet, Pondok Indah, Duren Sawit, Pancoran, TB Simatupang, Fatmawati, Kemang, and Kebagusan.
"Some spots appear in South and East Jakarta," said the Head of Public Work Office Manggas Rudy Siahaan.
Manggas added that the floods are often caused by clogged sewer. Moreover, illegal kiosks or stalls by the sewer have disrupted sewer access. In order to address the issue, he stated that rivers in Jakarta will be normalized.
"Rivers [in Jakarta] are currently 7-meters wide. Normally, they should be 20-meters wide," he said.
