"There are plenty merchant trolley blocking the way in [to the market]," he said. "What happens is that houses [surrounding the area] are being used as expedition companies offices."
Ahok said that the problems remain unresolved because it has been going on for decades. "[The expedition companies] have been operating for 20 to 30 years," he said, thus suggesting to construct a sidewalk dedicated to accommodating trolleys. "We should also provide solution, along with law enforcement," he said. Ahok underlined law enforcement plays an important law in restoring order and solving the issue.
In addition to trolleys, traffic problems in Tanah Abang was also caused by jaywalking. "We are trying to figure out a solution by confiscating ID cards [of people caught jaywalking]," Ahok said.
